How to Keep Up With Your Acura Service Schedule

March 23rd, 2022 by

Keeping up with your maintenance schedule is important for any driver. The same goes for owners of Acura vehicles. While they’re definitely made to last long, keeping up with your car’s service schedule should be important for any responsible owner. That’s because Acura drivers have just as much right as anyone else to make sure their car stays in tip-top shape. If you’re wondering when you should set aside time to get a headlight fixed or fill your tires with air, here’s a simple guide for you.

Acura’s Service Schedule

The first thing you’ll need to do before getting started is to find out what your car’s service schedule entails. It should outline the task that you need to complete for each service interval. Acura has a pretty straightforward schedule for most models. Here’s what it should look like for most cars:

Acura’s Oil Change Interval

For most Acura models, you need to get your oil changed every 7,500 miles or six months. Some models have the oil change interval at 10,000 miles. If you drive your Acura hard, you might need to change the oil on your Acura earlier. It’s also a good idea to check your owner’s manual to make sure you’re following the appropriate schedule.

Change All of Your Fluids

If you do an oil change, you also need to change your coolant and transmission fluids. Acura recommends topping off the coolant level every two years or 24,000 Miles. To do this, you’ll need to remove the radiator cap and fill it to the manufacturer’s recommended level. Some of the fluids you should check and change at each service interval include:

  • Engine Coolant
  • Brake Fluid
  • Power Steering Fluid
  • Transmission Fluid

This is also an excellent time to replace your thermostat if you notice that your temperature gauge is set to the red zone. Otherwise, you may need to spend more money on a new motor due to overheating.

Change Your Air Filter

After every 20,000 miles, your air filter also needs to be changed. This is a good idea because an old or dirty filter can improve your car’s fuel economy and lower carbon monoxide emissions. You can find your air filter under the hood, and it’s important to make sure that you install the air filter the right way. Otherwise, you will not see its full benefits.

Check Your Tires

If you’re driving on bald or low-pressure tires, you take a serious risk to yourself and your passengers. The service schedule for most Acura models requires you to check your tires every 7,500 Miles or six months. If you find that your tires are low on air, get them filled up. If you see that your tires are worn out, it’s probably time to get new ones. Also, make sure you have a tire pressure gauge in your car so you can check your tire pressure whenever you’re driving.

Inspect Your Battery

You should also inspect your battery at each service interval. Most of Acura’s batteries are capable of lasting up to five years or 100,000 Miles. But their performance may get weaker as they get older. So don’t forget to have your battery checked as well. If you start noticing problems with your battery, you might need to replace it.

Get a Regular Tune-Up

Finally, most Acura models need a tune-up every 30,000 miles. If you notice that your car is running rough, your engine is running hotter than usual, or your dashboard is lighting up with warning signs, you need to make sure that your spark plugs and wires are in good shape. This can prevent you from ending up on the side of the road with a dead battery.

Although Acura’s vehicles are pretty durable, it’s essential to keep up with your vehicle’s service schedule. This way, you can lower your chances of damage down the line. If you ever have questions, you can always contact your local Acura dealer for more information.
